Semarang, April 18, 2026 – The Government Science Study Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University, organized a Training and Mentoring event on Article Writing for Media and Journals for Government Science students. This activity aims to enhance students’ writing skills in two important areas: popular scientific articles and academic articles for international journals.

Held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 07:30 to 10:00 WIB at the FIMENA Auditorium, Building A, 3rd Floor, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University, the event saw the participation of more than 100 Government Science students from various academic years.

The training discussed the fundamental differences between writing popular scientific articles and academic articles for international journals. Popular scientific articles are emphasized as writings that are easily understood by the general public, presented in an up-to-date, factual, and communicative manner. On the other hand, academic articles for international journals have more complex characteristics, using rigorous scientific methodology, formal academic language, and undergoing a lengthy and selective publication process.

The session was moderated by Faiz Kasyfilham, a lecturer from the Department of Politics and Government Science, FISIP Undip. Two speakers were present: Setiyawan Hendra Kelana, Head of PWI Central Java, and Dr. Aniello Lannone, lecturer from the Department of Politics and Government Science, FISIP Undip. Setiyawan explained effective techniques for writing popular scientific articles and strategies for getting published in national media. Meanwhile, Aniello provided an explanation on tips for writing academic articles to secure publication in international journals.

This training responded to the importance of writing skills among students, both for academic needs and for contributing to society at large. Students are expected to differentiate writing styles according to the target audience and to understand the challenges of scientific publication, especially in international journals.

The activity featured material presentations, interactive discussions, and technical assistance in writing. The speakers offered in-depth explanations on writing structure, techniques for conveying ideas, and publication strategies. Participants were also invited to directly practice writing using the appropriate approaches. Through this event, students are expected to produce written works that are not only academically sound, but also relevant and easily understood by the wider community.
